SUSTAINABILITY DECLARATION REPORTS

As of January 2010, new property sales laws require all residential properties for sale to have a Sustainability Declaration completed and available for potential buyers to inspect.

HOW DOES IT AFFECT YOUR SALE?

The new Queensland laws mean:

(i) You as the seller may be liable to a buyer if a sustainability declaration is found to be false or misleading.

(ii) You cannot publish an advertisement for the sale of your property unless the advertisement includes information on where a copy of the sustainability declaration can be obtained (excluding newspaper or magazine advertisements)

(iii) You must ensure a copy of the sustainability declaration is visibly displayed at open homes, inspections or auctions.

Homes with more sustainability features can have lower operating costs, be more energy and water efficient. They use less energy for heating and cooling, generate fewer greenhouse gas emissions, use less water—and best of all, have the potential to sell for a higher value.

Fee: $125 for any property within the Brisbane Metro area
